WEST SIDE STORY – A ‘Behind-The-Scenes Sneak Peek’ into Steven Spielberg’s 2021 Movie”

October 4, 2020 in MOVIES & FILM, NEWS

Go behind the scenes of this re-imagining of the beloved musical WEST SIDE STORY is set to be released on December 10, 2021. The new film is Directed by Steven Spielberg, and we recently got a little ‘sneak-peak’ behind the scenes and on-set of the making of the film. It looks really exciting and the film will hopefully give birth to many new Hollywood stars including: Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); and Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); We must note that returning legendary actress Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for her 1961 West Side Story movie portrayal of Anita returns to this version in dual roles. This time around Spielberg brought her on as Executive Producer and actress. as she gives life to an all new character created for her (Valentina), who owns the corner store in which Tony works.

The new Spielberg film is a direct adaptation of the original Broadway musical but is shot on actual “film” instead of digital. “My mom was a classical pianist,” said Spielberg, in his recent one-shot interview with Vanity Fair. “Our entire home was festooned with classical musical albums, and I grew up surrounded by classical music. West Side Story was actually the first piece of popular music our family ever allowed into the home. I absconded with it—this was the cast album from the 1957 Broadway musical—and just fell completely in love with it as a kid. West Side Story has been that one haunting temptation that I have finally given in to.”

Bringing together the best of both Broadway and Hollywood, the film’s creative team includes Tony Kushner, who also served as an executive producer; Tony Award® winner Justin Peck, who choreographed the musical numbers in the film; renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and Grammy Award® winner Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of the iconic score; Academy Award®-nominated composer and conductor David Newman (Anastasia), who arranged the score, Tony Award®-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Thoroughly Modern Millie), who supervised the cast on vocals; and Grammy®-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (Beauty and the Beast, Chicago), who serves as executive music producer for the film. The film is produced by Spielberg, Academy Award®-nominated producer Kristie Macosko Krieger and Tony Award®-winning producer Kevin McCollum.

TV’s 1st Black Super Hero

April 2, 2017 in ANIMATION, NEWS, TV/INTERNET

https://youtu.be/DYi9kjpf6Zw

Warner Brothers has just released the first look images of Cress Williams in his BLACK LIGHTNING super hero gear.  The new series which will air on the CW Network  went into production  three days ago  in Atlanta.  Everyone, including us at ComedyE.com,  are very excited about this groundbreaking venture as forward thinking networks like CW cast minority and African American actors  in roles of diverse character types as well as support directors and production companies that do so.

Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie, Never Been Kissed,The Doom Generation) will star in the series as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning.  Salim Akil (Sparkle, The Game, Jumping the Broom) is directing the pilot episode for the series from a script he wrote.  New costumes are being designed for the character by Laura Jean Shannon (Iron Man, Blade: Trinity, The Jungle Book).

Black Lightning was the first African-American DC Comics Super Hero to have his own stand-alone comic title, and is based on the character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden 40 years ago in 1977.

The plot of the character’s life goes a little something like this…  Jefferson Pierce made his choice years ago and hung up the suit and his secret identity.  But now with one daughter hell-bent on justice and the other daughter, a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC Comics legend—Black Lightning.

Executive producer/writer & director Salim Akil said, “I knew way too much about the world as a young boy growing up in Richmond, California. I was no stranger to violence, death, hopelessness… Comics were a great way for me to escape. I was about 13 when Black Lightning was created.  Finally there was a Black Super Hero that gave a damn about our neighborhood and our lives.”

Akil hopes that bringing BLACK LIGHTNING  to the television masses at this time in history will prove to be a breath of fresh air that everyone can relate to no matter what  race.   “Resurrecting him at a time in our society when a sense of hope is lacking,” Akil continues, “Black Lightning will be that hope. And in updating the suit, it will signal to a new generation that it’s time to harness and release our power, and become our own Super Heroes.”
